Responsibilities and Duties

The ideal candidate will be responsible for fueling and lubing production trucks, performing preventative maintenance (PM) lube duties on all mine equipment and performing maintenance and light mechanical duties on lube equipment. In addition he/she must be able to conduct a safety inspection of the equipment and the general work area. Depending on the amount of experience, the individual may be classified as a Lube Mechanic Trainee, Lube Mechanic or Senior Lube Mechanic.

 

Essential Functions

  • Inspect work area, equipment and tools to ensure heavy equipment is properly chock blocked and secured before work is performed. This requires standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching movements, as well as the ability to lift and carry equipment and tools (i.e., chocks) weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Operate fuel and lube trucks by using hand, feet and eye coordination. This involves controlling gears and levers and operating the fuel distribution systems.
  • Read, comprehend and learn which fluids go into each piece of equipment.
  • Perform PM lube duties on all mine equipment including light vehicles. Must be able to hold, turn or otherwise operate hoses, handles, and hand tools including but not limited to screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches, chains, crowbars, and impact wrenches weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Hold, turn or otherwise operate lube equipment including but not limited to oil and grease pump charge out, zerks, nozzles and grease lines weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Hold, turn or otherwise manipulate tools to be able to perform light mechanical duties on lube trucks such as taillights, header repairs, wiper replacements, horns and other safety equipment.
  • Ascend and work from equipment and ladders as high as 25 feet in the air.
  • Maintain balance for extended periods of time while standing, walking and working on wet and uneven surfaces.
  • Read and understand PM and lubrication forms, record information on PM sheets and other data sheets, and do simple math to total lube and fuels used at the end of the shift.
  • Take tank measurements accurately and make simple calculations associated with volumes used and remaining in tanks.
  • Operate production machinery and equipment such as overhead cranes, shop doors, valves and gauges to perform maintenance functions.
  • Attach lockout devices to equipment correctly for the purpose of maintenance to ensure equipment cannot be turned on, as outlined in the company's procedures.
  • Stoop, bend, twist or otherwise maneuver for the purpose of inspecting parts, obtaining entrance into or around equipment and lubricating machinery.
  • Start and operate heavy equipment to move short distances for the purpose of testing and/or checking equipment.
  • Read, comprehend, interpret and learn maintenance literature, Material Safety Data Sheets ( MSDS), IMC safety procedures, warning signs, instructional manuals and vehicle instrument panel to prevent loss of personnel, property and process. MUST BE ABLE TO TAKE WRITTEN PROFICIENCY TESTS !
  • Hear and speak efficiently over FM radio for instructions and emergencies.
  • Hear verbal instructions and machinery. Hearing must be sufficient to distinguish various pitches of warning alarms.
  • See components of heavy equipment at close proximity and at a distance with a clear field of vision.
  • Must wear PPE ( Personal Protective Equipment) including hard hat, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, respirators, wet suits, earplugs, gloves and any other equipment required to perform the job safely.
  • Communicate effectively with fellow co-workers and supervisors in verbal and written form.
  • Must work in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIFICATIONS

  • At least 1 year previous experience lubing and fueling heavy equipment.
  • Minimum 6 months experience on light vehicle lubrication and maintenance.
  • Good safety and attendance record.
